Property Management Platform

Problem

Property managers needed a centralized platform to manage properties, handle maintenance requests from tenants, coordinate quotes from vendors, and maintain auditability across all operations. Existing tools either lacked multi-role support or provided insufficient data isolation.

Solution

Built a multi-role SaaS application using Next.js and Supabase that provides distinct interfaces for property owners, tenants, and managers. Implemented Row Level Security to ensure data isolation between organizations and maintain a complete audit trail.

Architecture

• Frontend: Next.js with TypeScript, role-based UI rendering
• Auth: Supabase Auth with role-based access control
• Database: PostgreSQL with Row Level Security policies
• Backend: Supabase Edge Functions for business logic

Key Technical Decisions

• Used Supabase RLS to enforce data isolation at the database level
• Designed a status lifecycle for maintenance requests (submitted → reviewed → quoted → in-progress → completed)
• Implemented audit logging for all state transitions
• Created role-specific dashboards with appropriate data views

Impact

The platform provides a complete property management workflow with proper access control, ensuring that owners, tenants, and managers only see data relevant to their role while maintaining full auditability.
